etsy shop update!

ok, i forgot to make a post when i opened the shop but i've finally added the rest of the items!  i've been working on some more candy coloured pyrite abominations that you'll be able to see in September so stay tuned.  :)

check it out!  woobeans.etsy.com

pyrite and gold

unemployment.  i am making some necklaces to sell at a craft fair at the end of May, and also to put on my future etsy shop.

right now it's mostly a manifestation of my obsession with pyrite but i'll be expanding into other gems and rocks once i figure out how (i.e. avoiding wire wrapping at all costs!).  so i'm currently focused on pyrite, gold, and brass coloured things.  did i mention i've also been working on a drawing of pyrite?  i think i have a problem.

dores

excited about the dores handmade etsy shop update on monday.

you've probably seen me wearing this necklace, it's become one of my staples!  i've also been wearing one of her bracelets for a few months now.  i'll be sad when it breaks off like a friendship bracelet.  i should've made a wish when i put it on.  i love the antique warmth of brass.

i ordered some faceted pyrite beads and i'm going to make some necklaces.  maybe i'll even sell a few.  i'm obsessed with pyrite these days.

vintage shoe finds

i'm not sure how i stumbled on this vintage shoe and handbag shop on etsy (if you can even call 80's gear vintage) but i love how everything is listed with clear and carefully measured sizes and details.

despite my (somewhat irrational but sorta legitimate) weird issues with second hand shoes i think i'll buy a pair but i can't decide which one.  i'm going to leave all their tabs open so i can decide over the next day or so.  :)

batman

i'm totally drawn to geometric shapes these days. i love these embroidered necklaces by spinthread on etsy, especially this one called batman:

and check out this girl's hair.  forget what i said yesterday about wanting straight hair again.  i want this!!

i also like these cubes

today!!!

i got my birthday gift from my boyfriend's little sister way out in Alberta :::: THANKS JANELLE!!! You totally made my day!!! Awesome, awesome, awesome!

This gift was handmade by the lovely and talented woman behind Catzilla Crafts who can be found on Etsy here. I sort of have a thing for cacti. And yes, that is my giant blurry head in the background :)

i would like to have each of these.

embroidered plants

i found out about tiny happy today.  she embroiders lots of cute forest motifs onto little satchels and things.  lots of the plants she choses are very west coasty and remind me of being a kid and picking out clovers and white clover flowers from the ground and saving them for no reason.

this one made it onto a foraging satchel:

i'm aching with love for the little wood button!!
lots more cute things at tiny happy's etsy shop.

i've been insulting cross stitch and hobbyist embroidery for years but now i kind of want to try this myself.  it reminds me of when my grandma showed me how to embroider some pretty flowers onto something i was sewing.  maybe i should stop being a hater.

pottery class and handbags

marcia and i had our first pottery class yesterday.  i won't get to do or learn as much demi moore/patrick swayze wheel work as i'd like to (not enough wheels for the entire class) so look forward to lots of boring lumpy stuff, and watch out if your birthday is coming up in the next 10 weeks.  har har.  NOoooooo...

in other news, i want this bag (pictured below)!  i didn't buy one at the erin templeton sample sale last week, which was awesome, by the way.  i mean, who has sangria and chips and salsa at a sample sale?  she does!  i did buy a belt that was made from a tragic pair of leather pants that desperately needed to be re-purposed.

anyways, this bag is made of recycled leather straps and a reclaimed WWII military stretcher:

ok, one more note about bags.  after seeing a Fjällräven kanken mini backpack on someone else's blog i scoured the internet for one for myself.  i'm a sucker for anything cute that i can ride my bike with.

i recently discovered that my secret love J.Crew is now selling them.  i'm both angry and impressed that a large corporate giant is stocking something i think is awesome.  angry because it's a large corporate giant and i come preprogrammed to hate those kinds of things because of my social, generational, and educational spheres of influences.  impressed because J.Crew continues to sell and style things i totally dig.  like heels worn with socks.  i'm sorry, ok? i'm sorry!

crocheted necklace

oh! isn't this nice.
er... slightly out of my budget.
but my birthday is coming up.
just sayin.
i would wear this a lot.
it would go with everything i have because it's all grey.
oh this would also look fantastic with what i'm wearing today, which also happens to be grey.  oops.

antique crate

You would think that since I work in video games I'd never wanna see a wooden crate again in my life but this one rules.  I might buy it.  Don't tell Andrew.

botanical illustrations

I think these are actually ripped from real vintage botany books but i'd like to draw my own because i love plants as much as i love french fries.  Especially ferns.

well deserved

I saw these at a booth at the Bumbershoot Festival in Seattle last weekend where there were plenty of cool things to buy. I collected a small stack of business cards with Etsy URLs to check out later since I didn't have any of that American monochrome cash with me. This shop full of handmade merit badges was totally my favourite.
