family pictures

my cousin just scanned a giant pile of family photos.

this one of my aunt from the 80's is totally ace. there it is again, a red scarf on a hiking trip. i am totally going to copy her entire outfit. her boots even match her sweater and scarf.  PACIFIC NORTHWEST 4EVER.

collection update

i wandered into a tiny store in Kits today called Amethyst Creations and promised myself to go back there again sometime.  there were piles and piles of gems (mostly amethyst but there really were piles of everything heaped into various makeshift containers) and i asked if they had any pyrite kicking around.

the girl behind the counter pointed to a few heaps scattered around the store and then she pulled out a small cube, perfectly formed and as shiny as a mirror.  "check THIS out!" and she plunked it on the remaining counter space.

i adopted it for a few bucks.

nature makes these, y'know.  just like that.

found objects

i am so proud of the stick i found while running in the woods yesterday!  so i haven't made much progress in terms of making more jewelry but i've hung them all up now.  plus you can see the new chunk of pyrite i acquired from a vintage etsy seller that came from the basement of an old gemologist.  it came with its own little egg cup!

pyrite and gold

unemployment.  i am making some necklaces to sell at a craft fair at the end of May, and also to put on my future etsy shop.

right now it's mostly a manifestation of my obsession with pyrite but i'll be expanding into other gems and rocks once i figure out how (i.e. avoiding wire wrapping at all costs!).  so i'm currently focused on pyrite, gold, and brass coloured things.  did i mention i've also been working on a drawing of pyrite?  i think i have a problem.

antelope canyon

i've wanted to visit a slot canyon for a while now.  every year i visit the sandstone desert cliffs in nevada to go climbing, and 4 or 5 years ago i did a road trip with two friends to utah just to see orange rocks and canyons.  we wanted to walk through some canyons at Zion but the water level was too high and fast.  and cold.  oh well.

i was searching for some reference photos for work today and when i typed in "slot canyon" into flickr i got pages and pages of beautiful photos.  i think i'd really like to go to Antelope Canyon right now please.
