long hair

looking at pictures of Au Revoir Simone at a concert in NY makes me want to ditch my fake curls and have long straight hair again and wear dresses and hang things from the ceiling.  it's been about 15 years since i've had long hair. 

colour of the year

Pantone's colour of the year is turquoise. 

I like this a lot.  I'm looking forward to stacking my life with turquoise, teal, and burgundy this year.  I wore a burgundy uniform for 12 whole years of my life for every school day and I'm secretly still not sick of it, but it hasn't been a huge part of my life since graduating from high school.

sparkles

last night i made a sparkly swarovski headband. not quite finished yet, i still need to attach an elastic. i bought these colours to go with my christmas party outfit but ended up not having time to start on it. oh well, any day can be a sparkly day, right?

 

our good friend (and marcia's roommate) saw some rhinestone headbands at a jewelery store with her daughter and wanted to make some for her for christmas.  the kid likes shiny things.  the headbands were 35 bucks at the store.  after last night i almost think it's worth it!  i misplaced my bead pilers (which would've made it easier to pick up the crystals) and the glue gun was maybe not the cleanest choice of adhesive.  but i figured it out in the end and it only looks sloppy if you bring it up to your nose.  :)

forest bulbs

i'd like to try making bulbs like these but i'll be away for christmas this year. 

 i guess they could be used for non-holiday reasons.

i feel like this Shopbop lookbook has my name written all over it and makes me want a pair of worn-in brown leather lace-up oxford boots even though i've never been able to fit my legs into a pair so slim.  look at it!  military style jackets, lumberjack plaid tunics, boyfriend jeans, and shorts with tights!

there is a secret little event in the works.  if it realizes itself i will announce it in the new year.   these illustrations poke my favourite brain buttons and tie in perfectly with the three dimensional structures i've been turning around in my head.  i mean, i have to do something with all that yellow tissue paper i have left over from our wedding craft explosion.

i had two goals for my christmas party outfit this year.  it would've been one or the other.  the first was the find something to wear with red tights.  the second was to find something to wear with my friend's mom's burgundy heels from the 70's.  i have achieved the latter.  yay!
